Professional Development Division

Since 1972, The Children's Center at Caltech (CCC) has been offering high quality child care and education for children ages six month to six years. In 2000, our research lead us to adopt STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) curricula as a focus of our early childhood program. As leaders in STEM Early Childhood education, we launched ECSTEM in 2011, and host an annual conference bringing together educators, policy makers, researchers and other vested community stakeholders to address the needs of our youngest citizens.

Due to the overwhelming demand for tours of our facilities, and requests for professional growth workshops, we have formed a Professional Development Division (PDD) that arranges tours, on-site visits and workshops at the CCC.

Energy: How Things Move

Our youngest learners are constantly using their bodies to explore the world around them.  Energy is being used whenever children are trying to figure out how things work.  Without even thinking twice about it, children are using their energy to play, create, and even observe.  Come join us in learning how infants and toddler groups discovered how to use their own energy in order to find out how things move.

Light and Shadow

Light and shadow is so interesting to children. It also is a valuable agent to help support active investigations and engage in STEM discoveries. Come and foster your own awareness of “light” and learn new strategies on how to use light tables and other materials that can provide new curriculum possibilities.

Form and Function: How To with Infants and Toddlers

Children are born with natural curiosity to explore the world around them. In the Bunny room, we nurture their inquisitive minds with a developmentally appropriate curriculum: Form and Function. What is it? Why is it important? Join us as we discuss different approaches and activity modifications with our young children. Get inspired! Take with you a variety of curriculum possibilities that you can apply with your infants and toddlers.
