Professional Development Division

Since 1972, The Children's Center at Caltech (CCC) has been offering high quality child care and education for children ages six month to six years. In 2000, our research lead us to adopt STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) curricula as a focus of our early childhood program. As leaders in STEM Early Childhood education, we launched ECSTEM in 2011, and host an annual conference bringing together educators, policy makers, researchers and other vested community stakeholders to address the needs of our youngest citizens.

Due to the overwhelming demand for tours of our facilities, and requests for professional growth workshops, we have formed a Professional Development Division (PDD) that arranges tours, on-site visits and workshops at the CCC.

Energy: How Things Move

Our youngest learners are constantly using their bodies to explore the world around them.  Energy is being used whenever children are trying to figure out how things work.  Without even thinking twice about it, children are using their energy to play, create, and even observe.  Come join us in learning how infants and toddler groups discovered how to use their own energy in order to find out how things move.

Exploring Force and Motion

Children are naturally curious and active learners.  Integrating joful STEM activities into the learning environment continues to foster this curiosity, and it allows for further exploration, inquiry development, discovery and problem-solving.  Join us and learn how preschool children gained new knowledge in all aspects of STEM through fun and interactive activities based on the curriculum concept of Energy: Force and Motion. We will introduce a developmentally appropriate curriculum on researching, exploring, and discovering how things move with young learners.

Form and Function

What is form and function?  How do you teach it? Why is it important to teach young children? Join us as we present and show how to introduce everyday items and specific materials to children, and why it is important to do so. We will demonstrate how you can incorporate form and function into your curriculum, and how it can beome your curriculum.
